Until the UFA interview period is open, I'm surprised he would comment on Stamkos at all and risk of tampering charges. Stamkos is still a member of the Lightening whether he wants to be or not. If I'm not mistaken, even then, the talks are supposed to be 'broad' in nature and not firm contract offers . . . though you know they are getting right down to the details. I love that is willing to comment on it though. At least someone is talking about it!

You gotta love GMTM's way he handles the questions. He even says that they haven't had internal discussions about Stamkos yet. Of course they have, but that's what makes him good at his job. Just finished listening to Pierre McGuire from an interview yesterday and he comments how he predicted it two months ago that "Vesey had a very good possibility of ending up in Buffalo with his friend Jack Eichel."

Darren Dreger on the other hand is sounding more and more like Ek, throw crap at the wall to see what sticks.

I still doubt we get Stamkos, and would almost prefer (almost) that we don't get him. We can afford 2 - 4 other players to help the team in the short- and/or long-term for the cost of Stamkos.

That doesn't mean I won't be doing cartwheels if GMTM could get Stamkos signed.

And I could care less if he plays for us, we have a good young team , lots of picks and a great scouting staff, good chance we won't be in dire straights without him.

Stamkos refused a $8.5M deal from the Lightning, I don't know if teams should go above $10M let alone $12M.
Bishop might be available from the Lightning, salary is $5M, Sabres have picks and prospects, would at least be worth looking at.
Not sure why Murray would have a press conference at this point? He's kind of limited to what he can say. I would think he and the management team has at least discussed various scenarios of what will happen and who could be available this week but what can he really tell reporters right now? Much like the Vesey situation, Stamkos will ultimately choose where he is going or if he is staying. Buffalo could get both which would be impressive, just wondering what their plans are for defensemen.

1-1.5 extra would be 7-10.5 mil more on a 7 year deal.

Ryan Callahan is washed up. Offensive stats were horrible playing with Stamkos, steady decline is apparent, local guy, we love him, but Cally is done. I don't think think it will change TBs approach to Stamkos. Callahan is a 3rd line player at this point healthy or not.
